Gov. Stitt signs domestic assault and battery search warrant bill

OKLAHOMA — Governor Kevin Stitt signed a bill that allows officers to obtain search warrants for suspects with arrest warrants for domestic assault and battery, including at third-party residences.

The Tulsa Police Robbery Lieutenant and Captain over the Detective Division and other officers traveled to OKC for the bill signing of SB 1660 with Governor Stitt.

Previously, when officers confirmed a suspect with an felony arrest or domestic arrest warrant was at a third-party residence, officers could not apply for a warrant to search the property for the wanted person.

Police say a third-party residence is a location that is not the suspect's home residence, or the address of the warrant.

Before this bill, suspects could go to into a house that had no relation to the crime under investigation and use it as a safe haven, police say.

Tulsa Police Detective A. Derycke brought up the issue and started working on a solution.

The change will take effect Nov. 1, 2024. You can read SB 1660 by clicking here .
