Fog-related crash sends prisoner transport bus off the road in Payne County

PAYNE COUNTY, Okla. — A crash on State Highway 33 near Perkins sent a prisoner transport bus into a ravine Wednesday morning.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol said dense fog caused traffic issues across the state.

Troopers said a driver of a pickup couldn't see the approaching bus though the fog and struck the bus, sending it off the roadway into a ravine.

Of the 37 inmates on board, 10 were taken to hospitals and 27 returned to the prison in Cushing. The driver of the pickup was not injured.

The Oklahoma Department of Corrections said the bus was not one of theirs.

FOX23 also reported on a deadly crash in Rogers County Wednesday morning.

Wow because a truck in the other lane went to pass a car, and hit the bus head on causing the bus to run off the road! 🙄

The idiots that drive these buses, drive like they are late for something. They have no regard for other drivers, they pass in no passing zones, and speeding that’s a whole other issue. Surprised this is the first incident that occurred!
