Good News: A New Leaf locations serve up fall favorites

Fall is in the air and so are the colors at A New Leaf Garden Center in Owasso.

"We have a lot of different fall plants out there, so come out and see us," said Courtney Vanderpool.

Vanderpool works at the Broken Arrow location. She knows a lot about the mums that come in on trucks. She even taught FOX23's Scott Martin how to properly care for them.

"The main thing is you don't want to water them from the top, cause the water can cause them to separate. The best thing to do is water from the bottom up," Vanderpool said.

It's why you'll see them setting in pools. While some are still pretty green, some have their colors already popping. Clients at A New Leaf man the garden centers. It's work they take pride in.

"We've grown to over 500 clients. We have six greenhouses, four locations, two permanent, two popups, then we do popups throughout the community," said Shelley Nachtigall.

A New Leaf was founded on horticultural services. It gives adults living with disabilities the chance to get real work experience.

"Our goal is to have our clients be independent as possible. And when people purchase these plants, we're able to pay them a wage that allows them to have independence," Nachtigall said.

The new season dawns new energy. Vanderpool said she's excited to see all the familiar faces looking for their fall décor.

"We have 12, 10 and 8-inch mums. We're out at this location, but you can find them at our other locations and shop online as well," Vanderpool said.

They're already taking preorders for their poinsettias.
