Killeen PD: Man dies in W Avenue D shooting

KILLEEN, Texas ( FOX 44 ) – The Killeen Police Department is investigating the death of a man in what is described as the city’s 18th murder of 2024.

Officers responded to a 9-1-1 call in reference to a gunshot victim in the 800 block of W. Avenue D at approximately 10:40 p.m. Wednesday. When they arrived, they found a 37-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound. The man was airlifted to Baylor Scott and White Hospital in critical condition.

Police say the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by Justice of the Larry Wilkey at 6:34 a.m. Thursday. He ordered an autopsy to be performed at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas.

The name of the victim has been withheld pending notification of next of kin. There is no threat to the community related to this incident.
