Santee School District announces free lunch and breakfast for all students

Correction: This article has been updated to reflect that students at the Santee Alternative School will also have access to free meals for the upcoming school year.

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Ahead of the first day of school for Santee area students, the school district announced students all schools will be receiving free breakfast and lunch this school year.

Students go back to school in Santee on Wednesday, Aug. 21.

On Monday, ahead of the new school year, the Santee School District announced an amendment to its policy for serving meals to students under the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs.

For the 2024/2025 school year, students at these schools will be served lunch and breakfast at no charge:

The school district confirmed to FOX 5/KUSI on Tuesday students learning through the Alternative School, an Independent Study program, do have access to the free meals as well.

Families in the Santee School District should have received an email with their child’s teacher and room number starting Monday, according to the district’s social media page .
