SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — It’s hot and humid Wednesday as temperatures hang out in the low 80s for many coastal communities, but a cooling trend will kick in for all areas the rest of the week.

A brief isolated shower or thunderstorm is possible this afternoon in southeast San Diego County as a moisture surge has brought humid air into the region. However, thunderstorm development is looking more and more unlikely.

A deeper marine layer will appear each evening and morning and extend farther inland as the weekend nears. A new troughing pattern will help rebuild the low clouds and create areas of patchy fog in our inland areas Thursday and Friday morning.

Thursday temperatures will still be warm but a cooldown is expected Friday/Saturday.

Afternoon temperatures Thursday at the coast will top out in the upper 70s, mid 80s for valleys, low 80s for mountains and near 105 degrees for the deserts.

Windier weather will also be at the forefront of the afternoon time frame as onshore flow strengthens.

This early-season cold system is the same one expected to bring rainfall to parts of Northern California as flash flood watches have been issued for the Park Fire burn scar for Friday and Saturday.

There could also be record-breaking snowfall Friday night for the Northern Sierra as snow levels could drop a dusting to a few inches of SNOW on the highest peaks.
