Man dies swimming in Pacific Beach; investigation ongoing

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A man is dead after swimming in the ocean in Pacific Beach overnight Sunday.

San Diego Police are investigating after a man was found unresponsive in the water just after 2 a.m. Sunday near Santa Rita Place and Lifeguard Tower 22 in Pacific Beach.

First responders arrived at the scene and attempted life-saving measures, but the victim was pronounced dead shortly after, police confirmed.

It is unclear at this time how long he had been in the water or who pulled him from the water, police say.

The victim has not yet been identified by authorities.

The San Diego Police Department is investigating the circumstances of the incident.
