SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Hammond’s Gourmet Ice Cream in North Park is closing after a decade in business.

The ice cream shop, located at 3077 University Avenue, made the announcement Tuesday on Instagram.

“Hammond’s has enjoyed enormous success over the past 10 years and we’ve enjoyed every minute of the journey. There is no doubt that we had the best fans and customers in the world,” the Instagram post read.

Hammond’s is known for its innovative ice cream flights and unique flavors, with flavor names like “Fat Elvis” and “Exhausted Parent.”

The shop said its goal was to bring high quality Hawaiian-made gourmet ice cream to the San Diego area when it started in 2014.

“However, as of late last year, we were no longer able to continue importing our famous Hawaiian ice cream, due to recurring supply chain issues and rising inflation,” the ice cream shop said. “And, while we have replaced our Hawaiian ice cream with a very good product from Wisconsin, we don’t feel it aligns to the original aim of Hammond’s.”

Hammond’s confirmed it will permanently shut down on Sept. 8.
