SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Josslyn Brownell can jump her skateboard onto a rail or a roof.

“Probably one of the most craziest moments in my skating so far,” Brownell said to FOX 5.

Jumping onto a roof for a skate camp a few years ago, crazy tricks are just a day in the life of Brownell.

“Crazy! I was like, oh my God, there’s no way I just did that,” says Brownell.

The 14-year-old says she started getting serious about skating three years ago, finding immediate success.

“It’s honestly amazing. Crazy how fast it’s going and how much progression is happening in such a short of time,” Brownell said.

The Encinitas native has skated circles around her competition, earning first place at the Encinitas Exposure competition, second at NSA nationals, and becoming Rockstar Energy’s weekly winner.

“I was like, wow. I want to do this, I want to do this,” Brownell said.

The San Dieguito Academy freshman enjoys standing out in the skating world — and at school.

“I don’t think I’ve met a girl at my girl who also skates,” she said.

She hopes her presence will help grow the game for girls her age.

“Kind of sucks I’m the only girl here. Where’s all the girl skaters at? Then again, at the same time, when you’re the only girl there, and you’re doing good, it makes you feel powerful,” Brownell said.

Brownell plans to show that power at her next competition Sept. 14, all the way in Pennsylvania.

“The junior nitro games. I’m pretty stoked about that. Got invited to that, and a couple of my other friends got invited to that, too. So it’s going to be super fun,” says Brownell.
