Three people taken to the hospital following rollover crash on SR-163

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Authorities released more information on the overturn crash that occurred Wednesday afternoon on State Route 163.

According to California Highway Patrol Thursday, the driver of the Subaru SUV that caused Wednesday’s collision was a 22-year-old man from San Diego.

The incident happened around 3:18 p.m., authorities said. A video posted on X, formerly known as Twitter , captured the moments leading up to the crash.

Authorities said the Subaru was on southbound Interstate 805, north of SR-163, when for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle struck a tractor-trailer combination vehicle driven by a 29-year-old man from Tecate, Mexico.

The driver of the Subaru then drove off the roadway and on an embankment, according to CHP. Moments later, the vehicle re-entered the roadway on the transition from southbound I-805 to SR-163.

During to the transition onto SR-163 southbound, the Subaru crossed all lanes and struck a Ford Eco Sport driven by a 70-year-old San Diego man, according to CHP. The impact resulted in the Subaru overturning on SR-163.

Authorities said the driver and passenger of the Subaru as well as the driver of the Ford were taken to a hospital for treatment. The driver of the semi-truck had no injuries, according to CHP.

CHP confirmed alcohol and/or drugs are not a suspected factor in the collision.
