SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Afternoon temperatures are expected to drop about 20 degrees for areas that dealt with nearly five consecutive days of triple digit heat.

Excessive heat over the weekend shattered daily temperature records for both maximum and minimum temperatures.

SDG&E sees record power demand amid ongoing heat wave

The Excessive Heat Warning for inland valleys and Heat Advisory for beaches expires Monday evening as cooler weather returns the remainder of this week.

Tuesday daytime highs will still be above average with low 80s at the coast, mid-90s for inland valleys and mountains, and nearly 110 degrees for deserts.

Temperatures will fall another 10 degrees between Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons.

As onshore flow increases, windy conditions will pick up for mountains and deserts mainly Tuesday and Wednesday. Our marine layer — or as some call it a natural AC — will return and deepen for the latter half of the week.

Lots of surface smoke from the nearby Line Fire and a fire burning just south of the border will bring some hazy skies and deteriorating air quality the rest of Monday and into Tuesday.
