Fatal crash prompts full closure of SR-76

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Both westbound and eastbound lanes of State Route 76 were closed Wednesday night after a fatal crash.

The crash was reported around 7:30 p.m. in the area of Pala del Norte Road, just before Pala Casino. According to California Highway Patrol logs, at least one person suffered major injuries and was pronounced dead on scene despite CPR attempts.

No further details were immediately available about what led up to the crash or if there were any additional injuries.

All lanes through the area were been blocked off for several hours due to the response to the crash, Caltrans said in a post on X. The roadway was opened just after 10 p.m.

An investigation remains ongoing into the incident.
