SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Two women were seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle in Rancho Peñasquitos Wednesday, authorities said.

According to the San Diego Police Department, the incident occurred around 5:50 p.m. when an 18-year-old woman was driving a 2015 Honda Fit in the 8500 block of Rumex Lane.

Police said the driver made a turn onto westbound Park Village Road when she collided with two women, who were both in their 60s. The pedestrians, who were in a crosswalk, were walking from north to south at the time of the incident.

One of the victims sustained multiple brain bleeds, a skull fracture, left collarbone fracture, multiple left rib fractures, bilateral lung contusions, a bruised left hip and a scalp laceration. Police said her injuries are considered life-threatening.

The other victim sustained a minor brain bleed, right humorous fracture and abrasions to her knees. She is expected to recover.

The driver was not injured and DUI was not a factor, police said.

Traffic Division officers responded to the scene and are investigating the collision. Anyone with information related to the above incident is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
