Plan ahead for weekend closure of I-8 in East County

LA MESA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — Motorists should plan ahead for road work on Interstate 8 in East County this weekend as a closure is set to go in place.

Crews will be working to repair the bridge over El Cajon Boulevard, prompting Caltrans to schedule a full freeway closure. The department announced those plans last week .

Starting at 9 p.m. Friday, eastbound I-8 from west of Jackson Drive through La Mesa and El Cajon will be closed for the repairs. Crews are expected to be working in the area through Monday at 5 a.m., according to Caltrans. That’s when the closures will be lifted.

Detour

Motorists will be detoured to northbound State Route 125, eastbound on State Route 52, southbound on State Route 67 and then to eastbound I-8.

There will also be closures on connector ramps including the following:

• Northbound and southbound SR-125
• Westbound I-8 to southbound SR-67
• Eastbound I-8 to northbound SR-67
• Eastbound I-8 to El Cajon Boulevard, Chase Avenue and Main Street
