    Hello, marine layer and cooler than normal temperatures

    SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Our old friend the marine layer has returned and brought with it cooler conditions along the coast.

    Onshore flow will stick around for the weekend with morning and evening coastal clouds extending farther inland up to coastal mountain slopes.

    Even with some cooler conditions, winds are contributing to elevated fire danger. However, the peak gusts are expected to diminish the next few days.

    Air quality alerts expire Thursday evening as southwest/west winds carry wildfire smoke to the northeast/east of us. As of Thursday at 2 p.m., air quality was at a moderate level.

    Temperatures for beaches on Friday will top out in the mid-70s, low 80s for valleys, mid-70s for mountains and just shy of triple digits in deserts.

    A stronger storm system to the north of us will swing through Central California Monday and Tuesday (snow for the Northern Sierra?)

    This system will drop temperatures for us at the beginning of next week and there will be a chance of light rain west of the mountains on Monday.
