RAMONA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A limited lockdown at a middle school in Ramona was lifted Thursday after a reported school threat turned out to be unfounded, according to law enforcement.

Authorities were informed about a possible shooting threat around 9 a.m. at Olive Pierce Middle School, located in the 1500 block of Hanson Lane, Sgt. Sean Gallagher with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.

Deputies responded to the campus, prompting school administrators to place the school on a limited lockdown.

The sheriff’s department did not find anything suspicious following a thorough search of the campus, per authorities. There were no injuries reported.

“Out of an abundance of caution, deputies conducted security sweeps at Ramona High School and Ramona Community Montessori School. Deputies also provided extra patrols at all three campuses until the end of the school day,” Gallagher said.

This week, police reported a flurry of unsubstantiated shooting threats involving San Diego elementary, middle and high school.

In Chula Vista, a 12-year-old Bonita Vista Middle School student was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of fabricating shooting threats that circulated through texts and social media.

However, authorities do not know if the Ramona incident is related to the unsubstantiated shooting threats in San Diego.

Those with information about the incident should call the Ramona Sheriff’s Substation at 760-738-2491. If students hear any threats or potential violence, they can approach the sheriff department’s school resource deputies or call the anonymous Student Speaking Out hotline at 888-580-8477.
