SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Although San Diego County may not get the changing of the leaves and crisp weather typically associated with fall, there are still plenty of ways to celebrate the season locally.
From taking photos at the pumpkin patch to cozying up on a rooftop while watching a movie, the county offers a variety of activities for everyone this fall. Here is a guide to getting into the autumn spirit throughout the county.
Venture east toward the town of Julian nestled near the Cuyamaca Mountains. Known for its apple pies and quiet location, Julian offers picturesque scenery year-round but especially during fall.
In addition to taking photos at a local pumpkin patch, you can also visit one of the local orchards and enjoy apple picking with the entire family. Some orchards have already opened for the season while others are set to begin their harvest very soon. Click here for more information about apple picking in Julian.
Enjoy fall treats at Belmont Park
The annual Beachside Fall Festival takes place at Belmont Park in Mission Bay each weekend through September and October. In addition to amusement park rides and festive fall photo backdrops, it features seasonal food and drink offerings like caramel apple funnel cake, a loaded pie milkshake and maple bacon fudge.
Take the kids out trick-or-treating at Legoland California Resort
Brick-or-Treat returns to Carlsbad’s Legoland California Resort Saturday! The resort will be transformed for Halloween festivities, offering fun photo opportunities for the whole family. Guests can meet not-so-scary LEGO monsters like Spider Lady, Mummy and Monster Scientist, and participate in Lord Vampyre’s costume party. More information can be found here .
Visit the Carlsbad Pumpkin Patch
Of course, what is fall without a trip to the pumpkin patch? The Carlsbad Strawberry Company’s popular pumpkin patch opens for the season next Friday, Sept. 20. In addition to taking photos with giant pumpkins, you can bring the whole family to enjoy the corn maze, visit sheep and goats and go on a tractor ride. For ticket information and opening hours, visit their website here .
Watch a movie on a rooftop
What better way to welcome fall than to cozy up on a rooftop with a classic rom-com or your favorite horror film? The Rooftop Cinema Club has unveiled their fall lineup , which includes rom-coms like “The Princess Bride” and “10 Things I Hate About You” as well as family-friendly movies like “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” “Scooby-Doo” and “Coco.” For moviegoers seeking scarier horror, you can also find the spooky season lineup which includes “American Psycho,” “Smile,” “Jennifer’s Body” and “The Conjuring.”
However you choose to revel in the enchantment of fall in San Diego County, rest assured you won’t have to bundle up very much! So put on your favorite flannel shirt and get your pumpkin-carving tools ready. Fall officially starts Sept. 22.
