CHULA VISTA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — Crews responded to a structure fire in the South Bay Friday morning, which sparked from a lithium ion battery, the Chula Vista Fire Department confirmed.

The blaze was reported around 5:45 a.m., prompting crews to respond to a business off Main Street in Chula Vista. FOX 5/KUSI responded to the area, seeing fire trucks outside the Omega Industrial building.

Some of the workers were reported to be inside of the business when they heard a loud noise. When they went to investigate, they discovered a battery was on fire. That’s when they evacuated the building and called for assistance.

The fire department investigated the scene and determined a marine boat battery had caught fire on the second floor of the building. Crews extinguished the blaze and ventilated the structure.

As of 7:15 a.m., crews were still on the scene accessing the area. No injuries have been reported at this time.
