    High-speed chase in South Bay ends in crash with police cruisers

    SAN YSIDRO, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A driver is facing charges after leading police on a high-speed chase on Interstate 5 late Friday night that ended in a crash involving two police cruisers.

    California Highway Patrol (CHP) is investigating after an unidentified driver in a white BMW was seen by a CHP officer at 10:49 p.m. Friday lose control, coming to a stop in several lanes on I-5 northbound, south of State Route 905 in South Bay.

    The CHP officer says they then watched as a San Diego Police Department (SDPD) officer attempted to pull over the BMW, which took off at a high speed north on I-5 before crashing at the SR-905 transition. The CHP police car and a SDPD police car were involved in the crash, CHP says.

    The officers were taken to the hospital for treatment of unknown injuries. CHP reports the driver of the BMW was taken into custody by SDPD officers.

    California Highway Patrol is investigating and is asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact the CHP San Diego Area office at 858-293-6000.

    Driver was already released. Male driver pick up illegals and thought SDPD was border patrol. They always run from border patrol because it’s in policy agents can’t chase vehicles when it’s going to fast or unsafe.
