SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A Camp Pendleton Marine was sentenced Monday to about three years (37 months) in prison for selling ghost guns to undercover agents without a license, prosecutors said.

Christian Ferrari, 23, of El Cajon, admitted to the sales of 22 ghost guns to ATF agents in exchange for $23,000 over four separate transactions between March 13 and May 9, 2023, the Office of the United States Attorney Southern District of California said in a news release.

“During one of the transactions, undercover agents told Ferrari those guns were going to be taken to Mexico. Ferrari responded, ‘alright, perfect,’ and agreed to sell the agents 10 more ghost guns for $10,000,” prosecutors said.

Ferrari was arrested following the final transaction.

Ghost guns, which are made using specialized tools to construct the parts into a functional firearm, do not have a serial number, making it hard to trace them.

Ferrari’s arrest is a result of the Privately Made Firearm Crime Reduction Project that has led to the seizure of 165 ghost guns and the prosecution of 33 people from February to May of 2023, according to the U.S. Attorney Southern District of California.
