Oceanside store gets license suspended for giving minors alcohol

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A convenience store in Oceanside got its license suspended by the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control after an employee reportedly provided two minors with alcohol.

On Tuesday, ABC said that the two minors who were given alcohol by a store employee at Wisconsin Market in Oceanside were later involved in a car crash causing great bodily injury on Oct. 4, 2023.

After an investigation to figure out where the 19-year-old driver had acquired the alcohol they consumed prior to the crash, ABC agents found that the person responsible was Gerardo Macdaleno, a clerk at Wisconsin Market who had furnished them the alcoholic beverages.

The teen then drove under the influence of alcohol and subsequently crashed into a tree, causing injuries to their own self as well as their two passengers, officials said.

Wisconsin Market had its alcoholic beverage license suspended last Thursday, according to ABC’s website. The disciplinary action was for furnishing alcoholic beverages to a minor causing great bodily injury or death, sale of alcoholic beverages to a second minor and delaying the peace officer who was in charge of the investigation.

In response, the business licensee signed a settlement agreement and is now prohibited from selling alcohol until the 20-day suspension period ends. The alcohol license will also be on a probationary status for three years and is at risk of being revoked should a violation occur during this time, ABC stated.
