Vargas was walking along South Twin Oaks Valley Road when she was struck by the vehicle, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department. First responders took the victim to the hospital for serious injuries, but she later died at the hospital.

Authorities confirmed alcohol was not a factor in the crash. The driver of the vehicle did cooperate with the investigation.
