SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A man was taken into custody Wednesday morning after an hours-long SWAT standoff in San Diego’s Sherman Heights neighborhood, local authorities confirmed.

According to the San Diego Police Department, a call came in around 1 a.m. reporting a disturbance between the suspect and a woman at an apartment near J and 25th streets. The man allegedly pulled out a handgun and threatened the woman.

Police responded to the scene, confirming the woman was able exit the residence safely. The suspect, who authorities say was believed to be armed, remained inside the apartment. A SWAT team was called in and surrounded the area for several hours.
