    Pedestrian standing in roadway hit, killed in Chula Vista: police

    CHULA VISTA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle in the South Bay Thursday night, the Chula Vista Police Department confirmed.

    The incident occurred around 10:15 p.m. in the 1000 block of Telegraph Canyon Road at Paseo Ranchero. Police said responding officers discovered that a vehicle had hit a person who had been standing in the roadway.

    Witnesses, police and fire department personnel gave first aid to the pedestrian, who was later pronounced dead by paramedics. The victim is believed to be between the age of 20-25. Their identity is not yet known.

    The driver, a 69-year-old Chula Vista resident, remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said. Alcohol is not considered a factor in this crash.

    The Traffic Bureau was called to the scene to investigate the fatal collision and determine the cause. Anyone who witnessed the collision or has additional information is asked to contact
    investigators at 619-782-3847.
