SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — More than 2,600 pounds of methamphetamine was seized last week at the Otay Mesa commercial inspection facility, according to authorities.

The drug bust occurred on Oct. 3 during the examination of a tractor-trailer entering the U.S. from Mexico, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection said in a news release Thursday.

A 40-year-old man was the driver of the empty commercial tractor-trailer, which required a secondary inspection.

Rancho Santa Fe zip code among most expensive in the U.S.

CBP officers used its K-9 unit who alerted officers to the vehicle’s floor. There, authorities found 265 packages of methamphetamine hidden within the floor frame. The estimated street value of the drugs came out to be $3.22 million.

“I am extremely proud of our dedicated workforce,” said Rosa E. Hernandez, Port Director for the Area Port of Otay Mesa. “Our officers are always vigilant and work hard to ensure our border security is not compromised and to protect our communities from dangerous drugs.”

The driver was turned over to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations for further investigation, while the drugs and vehicle were seized by CBP officers.
