SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — There are two local establishments that are considered among the highest-rated fine-dining restaurants in the country, according to a recent study.
Researchers with Restaurant Furniture , a commercial furniture supplier, delved into Google review data to identify the finest eateries with at least one Michelin star. From there, they determined which spots had the highest percentage of five-star reviews on Google.
“This study considered only restaurants with one or more Michelin stars as a starting point due to the prestigious reputation associated with receiving such an award,” said Nick Warren, head of ecommerce at Restaurant Furniture. “The final ranking then reveals how everyday customers rated each restaurant, as opposed to food critic reviews.”
Their are two culinary gems in San Diego County that made the top 50. Can you guess which spots?
Ranking No. 22 on the list is Jeune et Jolie , which is located in North County’s Carlsbad. The restaurant plates “reimagined” French Cuisine. This restaurant offers a four-course meal, as well as an an à la carte menu. Guests will also have the choice to sip on some classic French cocktails, or some chic California-style drinks.
Meanwhile, San Diego’s Soichi restaurant, located in University Heights, ranked No. 16 on the list. This popular establishments serves traditional Japanese Omakase cuisine like sushi and sashimi. What does Omakase mean? It’s a Japanese phrase and dining experience where the chef controls the meal and the diner leaves the details to the chef.
In an interesting finding, “Notably, 60% of the restaurants that feature among the top 10 specialize in Japanese cuisine,” said Warren. “This may suggest that Japanese restaurants hold their customer experience to a higher standard than other cuisines, which is then reflected in user reviews.”
