SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Chuck Fisher has walked down the length of Ocean Beach Pier more than 10,000 times, but on Friday, he took the final steps in a journey that began three decades ago when he and his wife opened the Walking on Water Cafe.

“This last trip, I loved it as much as I did the first time I walked out thirty-some years ago,” Fisher said.

What to know about San Diego County’s local sales tax ballot measures

Each and every piece of equipment and furniture must be removed from the cafe, and each one has a sentimental value and history for those who cherish the OB Pier.

It has been a slow and emotional process, but the history will be passed along.

“I donated most of the items that have some sort of nostalgic value, I wanted to keep it local,” he said. “I could’ve sold it on eBay but I’ve donated it to a local nonprofit here in Ocean Beach and they work with the homeless.”

Eventually, the items will be sold to the highest bidder with the profits going to Latter Reign Ministries.

Like the OB Pier itself, the contents of the cafe have been beaten and battered by decades of wear and tear. Each piece is a weather-worn treasure with a sense of nostalgia that brings back beautiful memories.
