SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Ballots were mailed out to every active registered voter in San Diego County earlier this month. According to the California Secretary of State , as of Sept. 6, there were about two million registered voters in San Diego County.

Completed ballots could be submitted either by mail with a signed return envelope, dropped off at any official drop box throughout the county or in person at the Registrar’s office and vote centers. What happens to a ballot afterwards?

How can voters track the status of their ballot after mailing it in?

The Secretary of State’s office has a tool called “Where’s My Ballot?” powered by BallotTrax which allows voters to track what happens to their ballot from the moment it is mailed to when it is received and counted.

    How can voters sign up?

Voters can sign up at wheresmyballot.sos.ca.gov to use the tool. After signing up, voters can also choose to receive notifications during a certain period of time by adjusting their settings. They can also choose not to receive notifications at all, the office states, and they can unsubscribe at any time. The tool does not change or update voter registration.

Voters who live overseas but are registered to vote in California can also track their ballots, but would have to enter the residential zip code they used when they registered to vote.

Is it too late to register?

Voters who want to vote in the presidential general election must register by Monday to get a ballot in the mail. Learn more on how to vote in the Nov. 5 presidential election here .

Those who miss the registration deadline can conditionally register and vote provisionally. To learn how, watch the video below.

On Saturday, Oct. 26, a select number of vote centers will be available across the county for San Diegans to register to vote. On Saturday, Nov. 2, the remaining 200 polling centers will be up and running ahead of the final day of voting on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
