SOMERSET, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — A store that serves ice cream and blizzard treats may seem like a well-equipped place to handle fires, and on Friday, Dairy Queen staff did just that.

Firefighters were dispatched to the Somerset Dairy Queen on Friday, but what crews saw at the scene surprised them.

The Somerset Fire Department posted on Facebook that crews were dispatched on Friday to the Dairy Queen (DQ) on Highway 27 in Somerset in response to a structure fire, “but the employees had already put out the flames with proper fire extinguisher techniques before their arrival.”

Authorities said the Dairy Queen staff’s quick reaction to the fire minimized the damage, and the structure was left in good enough condition to stay open.

The Somerset Fire Department said that crews assisted DQ staff with disconnecting fire equipment, and then normal operations were allowed to continue.
