A preliminary investigation showed that a 17-year-old boy from Cox Creek was driving a 2016 Ford Fusion heading west when, “for unknown reasons,” authorities said, he crossed the median and into the path of a 2016 Cadillac Escalade which was driven by 41-year-old Patrick Reed, who was headed east.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene by the Nelson County Coroner’s Office, per law enforcement. Reed and two passengers were flown to the University of Louisville Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
