ESTILL COUNTY, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — A Kentucky community has come together to support a two-year-old in need.

“Driving through these mountains when I came in this morning, it was one of the best sunrises I’d ever seen in a long time,” Mike Chaney, the representative of the Estill County class of 1972, said. “And it was like God was smiling down, saying, ‘This is going to be a good day.’ And it’s really, really been a great day.'”

Though it wasn’t the typical holiday celebration, many in the community felt compelled to participate.

Grayson, now two years old, had a stage 4 brain bleed before he was born. Since he’s been diagnosed with epilepsy, severe cerebral palsy, and vision impairment.

His great-grandmother Peggy Webb explained that Grayson’s mother has to constantly monitor his condition.

“He needs something just to get in and out of the car, and his temperature doesn’t regulate like it’s supposed to; his heart rate can go down fast so she has to monitor all of that,” Webb said.

The “Grayson Gets Mobile” event, organized by the Estill County Class of 1972, raised funds for a wheelchair-accessible vehicle for Grayson’s family.

“I always feel like we’re put on this earth to help others, and if we can do that every day, look around and help others. We’re doing a good thing, but especially being able to do something for people that we know are special,” Chaney said.

The event drew hundreds of supporters.

“I was hoping for it,” Webb said. “We’ve been blessed to have this many people show up. So everybody has pitched in so good. They’ve been here since 7:00 this morning and will probably be here till 7:00 tonight to clean up, but yeah, we’ve had a great turnout.”
