LONDON, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — A Florida man was arrested Thursday evening after allegedly driving recklessly in a Sonny’s Barbeque parking lot and approaching people in a gas station with a baseball bat outside of London.

According to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO), deputies were initially dispatched around 9 p.m. Thursday to Sonny’s Barbeque about nine miles south of London in response to a call about a man driving a white Nissan SUV who was “doing donuts in the roadway hitting several traffic cones.”

While heading to the scene, authorities were informed by 911 dispatch that the driver had gotten out of his SUV and allegedly ran into a Shell gas station across the street “armed with a baseball bat,” according to court documents.

When law enforcement arrived, deputies asked 52-year-old Sean Michael Gurney of Florida what had happened. He told authorities that he had allegedly recently escaped after being held captive by a motorcycle gang for 13 days.

Deputies noticed that Gurney’s eyes were bloodshot with constricted pupils and that he was “rambling about things that didn’t make any sense,” according to the sheriff’s office.

According to court documents, when the LCSO found Gurney’s SUV in the gas station parking lot, deputies saw a traffic cone stuck underneath and allegedly found “white containers that a green and leafy like substance believed to be marijuana” inside.
