Schools remain closed as Laurel County manhunt continues

LONDON, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — Multiple schools were closed on Monday while authorities continued to search for an alleged shooter, 32-year-old Joseph Couch .

On Sunday, authorities announced Couch was the suspect in the shooting that injured five people and damaged 12 vehicles traveling down I-75 near exit 49.

Kentucky State Police said Couch should be considered armed and dangerous. There’s a $15,000 collective reward out for information that leads to his arrest.

At least 18 school districts and college campuses were impacted on Monday, the third day of the search.

On Monday, Laurel County Public Schools announced they would be closed again on Tuesday.

“Student and staff safety is a priority in the Laurel County Public Schools,” Laurel County Public Schools said.

More closures or campus impacts are possible as the search continues. A full list of closures can be found on the FOX 56 News website as they become available.

The investigating agencies said they’re confident in their search efforts but continue to encourage people to stay vigilant. Authorities emphasized that if you see Couch, do not approach him.
