WHITLEY COUNTY, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — Police said a South Dakota man died after losing control of a commercial vehicle on I-75 in Whitley County on Wednesday.

According to Kentucky State Police (KSP), it happened just after 5:30 p.m. at the 21-mile marker of I-75.

Gov. Andy Beshear spoke with law enforcement amid ongoing search for I-75 shooter

KSP said its preliminary investigation showed that a commercial vehicle driven by 56-year-old David Nies of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, was driving north on I-75 when “he lost control of his vehicle leaving the roadway and drove up an embankment striking several trees and overturning.”

Nies died from his injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead by the Whitley County Coroner’s Office, who also notified his next of kin, per KSP.
