RUSSELL COUNTY, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — The community is in mourning following the tragic loss of Deputy Joshua Phipps. In the wake of this heartbreaking event, local organizations and residents are rallying together to support those affected.

Andrew Doyle, executive director of the Caleb Conley Foundation , shared how they quickly mobilized to honor Phipps.

    LATEST KENTUCKY NEWS:

“I was actually talking with Caleb’s wife Rachel at the time that we kind of figured out what had happened. As soon as we found out, I sent a text saying, ‘Hey, we need bracelets,’” he explained.

The foundation, which honors first responders killed or injured in the line of duty, has donated 100 memorial bracelets to the Russell County Sheriff’s Department and Phipps’s family.

“Sometimes when a deputy passes or is killed in the line of duty, it’s sudden, like in this case. Nobody expected it. That bracelet might be the last thing that the agency or the family gets to have to hold on to their coworker, or best friend, or in this case, son.”

Another organization stepping up is Kentucky C.O.P.S. (Concerns of Police Survivors), which provides emotional, financial, and legal support to the families of fallen officers. Craig Sutter, President of the Kentucky chapter, noted, “We can assist people with counseling and with filling out paperwork, and we do several events throughout the year that we invite survivors to.”

    LATEST KENTUCKY LISTS AND RANKINGS:

“It’s very shocking, for the family and an agency. A lot of people are kind of lost in their grief, and we just want to be able to provide resources as they want them or need them,” he added.

Funeral services for Phipps will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at 3Trees Church in Russell Springs, with cremation to follow.

Gov. Andy Beshear has ordered flags at all state buildings to be lowered to half-staff on Saturday in honor of Phipps.
