CYNTHIANA, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — A group of Harrison County students required medical attention after an outdoor event, per the superintendent.

Superintendent Harry Burchett said that on Thursday the district celebrated the construction of its new high school with students, staff, and community members.

“The event was going very well but the increased heat with extended time in the sun became too much for some of our students,” Burchett said.

Burchett emphasized that all the affected students received treatment at a first aid location and are receiving follow-ups from the school nurse.

“We regret that any student, staff, or guest experienced any condition that required immediate attention but are thankful for the quick response by our nursing staff,” Burchett said.

The superintendent said the district will host a “debriefing” session to reevaluate how they can improve events in the future.

“We know our parents place their most precious asset in our trust and we will be working hard to rebuild any reduction in that trust as a result of yesterday’s event,” he said.
