LOUISVILLE, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — The Louisville Zoo’s new tiger cub is looking for a name!

The male Sumatran tiger cut was born on July 23 and he is the first of his kind to be born at the zoo in 20 years .

    LATEST KENTUCKY NEWS:

The Louisville Zoo said that it hasn’t welcomed a Sumatran Tiger cub since Leela, Jai, and Mohan were born in April 2004.

“It’s been a long time since the Zoo has welcomed a tiger cub to our extended family and we are all excited by the arrival of this rare and endangered youngster,” said Louisville Zoo Director Dan Maloney. “I commend the Islands and Animal Health teams for their efforts and invite our community to come celebrate with us as we watch this precious cub grow and progress.”

The zoo has selected three potential names, with each reflecting the importance of the cub and honoring his parents. The names include:

    • Satu
    • Saya Samba
    • Kaji

Voting began on Monday, according to the Louisville Zoo, and will run through 11 p.m. on Oct. 8. Guests can vote on their favorite name once daily here . The naming contest is sponsored by Norton’s Children’s Hospital.

The Norton Children’s Hospital stands for high-quality pediatric care across a spectrum of specialties and locations throughout Kentucky and Southern Indiana. The hospital serves more than 200,000 patients and sees more than 1 million patients each year.
