‘This isn’t real:’ Muhlenberg County woman wins $250K from scratch-off ticket

MUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — A Drakesboro woman’s tradition of buying lottery tickets on payday paid off in a big way.

According to the Kentucky Lottery, in early September Kellee Reed stopped at Eagles VII in Drakesboro, where she bought a $10 $250,000 Cash Blowout! ticket .

When she got home, Reed said she scratched the ticket off and saw a 2x symbol.

“I saw two times and I was like, ‘Oh, I got $25,’” Reed said.  “I saw another two times and a five times and I kept on scratching. No way, I got $250,000! This isn’t real.”

Reed told lottery officials the first people she told about her big win were her parents.

“They were like, ‘Uh, uh, let us see the ticket,’” Reed said.  “My mom started doing the math with me. She told me, ‘You got lucky.’”

On Sept. 9, Reed and her brother drove to the lottery headquarters and, after taxes, she walked away with a $180,000 check.

“I’m very excited for her,” her brother told officials.  “She works hard.”

Reed works as a manager at a restaurant and she told lottery officials she will tuck away the winnings as savings for the time being.

“I was blessed,” she said.

Eagles VII will also receive a check for $2,500 for selling the winning ticket.
