LONDON, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — Laurel and Whitley counties in Kentucky have merged their emergency management programs, marking the first such collaboration in the state.

The new program will be led by Jerry Rains, who has more than 20 years of experience, including responding to major disasters such as the 2021 tornadoes in western Kentucky and the 2022 floods in eastern Kentucky.

    LATEST KENTUCKY NEWS:

The merger aims to improve resource sharing between the counties, especially given the decline in emergency service volunteers.
