Ky. tow truck driver killed by New York semi driver reportedly watching YouTube

BATH COUNTY, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — Kentucky State Police troopers were called to the crash around 5:17 p.m. to I-64 near mile marker 124, according to a news release.

KSP said that a Jerry’s Towing tow truck was loading a vehicle onto a rollback. According to the Bath County Coroner’s Office, the driver of the tow truck, 54-year-old Troy Caldwell, was hit by a semi while loading the car. Caldwell was declared dead at the scene.

Shodmon Yuldashev, 29, from Brooklyn, New York, was charged with tampering with physical evidence in connection with the crash.

According to the arrest citation, Yuldashev was reportedly watching YouTube on his dash-mounted tablet. During the vehicle inspection, detectives said he powered off and put away the tablet to hide it from authorities.

Troopers noted that they had actively seen and taken pictures of the tablet playing YouTube before the inspection.

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing.

A man is dead after being stuck on the side of the road Wednesday in Bath County.

The Bath County Coroner’s Office told FOX 56 News that 54-year-old Troy Caldwell was picking up a car on the side of I-64 when he was struck and killed by a semitruck.

The coroner’s office said the accident happened between mile markers 124 and 125 on the westbound lane.

The investigation is ongoing.
