Kentucky lawmaker recovering after lawn mower accident

HARLAN, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — A Kentucky senator is recovering after being injured in a lawn mower accident earlier in September.

A Kentucky Senate majority spokesperson told FOX 56 that Sen. Johnnie Turner, a Republican from Harlan had his first physical therapy on Wednesday and is showing signs of improving physically, even though he remains in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Turner was injured on Sept. 15 when he drove his mower into the deep end of an empty swimming pool , Kentucky State Police said.

Turner was elected to the state senate in 2020 and served in the Kentucky House of Representatives from 1999 to 2002.

Kentucky lawmakers continued to ask for prayers for Turner’s recovery.
