Ohio man, 21, charged after cache of guns found inside rooms at Chicago’s Trump Tower

CHICAGO — A 21-year-old man has been charged after causing a SWAT incident at Trump Tower in River North.

Brandon Peck, of Ohio, faces two felony counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon/no Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card, and one citation.

At a detention hearing Wednesday, prosecutors said police found two loaded firearms in Peck’s Trump Tower hotel room, along with a duffel bag of live rounds and additional magazines, which included an extended magazine. Two more guns were found — one in Peck’s car, and another in his stepfather’s Trump Tower hotel room — which prosecutors said both belonged to Peck.

Prosecutors said what set off the chain of events was an employee noticed the first two guns in Peck’s hotel room, and after notifying Secret Service agents, CPD was brought in to investigate around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday.

When police arrived, Peck was then taken into custody without incident.

Peck’s defense attorney spoke to reporters after the detention hearing, where he made the argument Peck brought the guns for protection.

“We have President Trump — who is a fervent admirer of the second amendment — I find it a little bit ironic you can go to his hotel, but you can’t bring firearms into them,” said Michael Cheronis, Peck’s attorney.

The judge in Peck’s case granted him pre-trial release, where they argued he did not present a real and present threat to the public.
