COPPERAS CREEK, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — The Wolfe County Search and Rescue Team was able to save a pair of experienced lost hikers on Thursday above Copperas Creek.

Rescue teams said that around 8 p.m. they received word of two hikers who had cliffed out above Copperas Creek and had been lost for four hours.

    LATEST KENTUCKY NEWS:

Thanks to a locator link sent to their mobile device, the team said they were able to pinpoint their location and attempt a rescue.

Due to recent storms, team members said they decided to hike along Copperas Creek near the cliffs and try to find a break in the line to gain access from below. Given the fact it was nighttime, the team said this was a difficult operation.

The Wolfe County team said they successfully located the duo and used handlines to make sure they safely descended from the cliffs, completing the rescue operation just after midnight on Friday.
