2 charged after death of 2-year-old in Graves County

GRAVES COUNTY, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — Two people have been arrested after the death of a young child.

Kentucky State Police said troopers responded to a home on KY-849 in Graves County after a 2-year-old was unresponsive after being found in a backyard pool.

KSP said first responders tried life-saving measures, but the child was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.

After an investigation from KSP and the Department of Community Based Services, the child’s father, 27-year-old Nathaniel Purcell, and Purcell’s girlfriend, 26-year-old Courtney Amacher, were indicted for multiple offenses stemming from the investigation.

Purcell, from Melber, was charged with second-degree manslaughter, seven counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, four counts of second-degree criminal abuse—child 12 or under, tampering with physical evidence, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Amacher, of Melber, was charged with second-degree manslaughter, seven counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, four counts of second-degree criminal abuse—child 12 or under, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Purcell was lodged in the Ballard County Detention Center. Amacher was lodged in the Marshall County Detention Center.
