SOMERSET, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — Fire crews in Somerset responded on Saturday after the embers from a brush burn spread to a nearby home.
According to the Somerset Fire Department (SFD), crews were dispatched in response to a structure fire on Highway 39 after a passerby reported seeing smoke and flames coming from the roof of a mobile home.
When crews arrived at the scene, smoke was reportedly visible on the rooftop of the home and a large tree and brush fire could be seen behind it.
“The owners had started a fire to burn brush and limbs around the tree base, but embers ignited the roof,” The SFD wrote on Facebook.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the rooftop fire as well as the brush fire and removed the burnt part of the tree with a chainsaw. There were no injuries reported.
The SFD wrote a reminder on Facebook that Kentucky is under a fall burn ban from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 1 to Dec. 15, which prohibits outdoor burning within 150 feet of any woodland, brushland, or fields containing dry grass or other flammable materials.
