    Man accused of killing 75-year-old mother in Pikeville shooting

    PIKEVILLE, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — A death investigation is underway and a 75-year-old woman was found dead inside a Pikeville home.

    Kentucky State Police said that, after a domestic violence call Monday night at the 600 block of Old Wagner Station Road, 59-year-old Alex Yuhas was arrested.

    He was reportedly involved in a “domestic altercation” with his mother, 75-year-old Paulette Mullins, when he fatally shot her, according to KSP. The Pike County Coroner’s Office declared Mullins dead at the scene.

    Investigators said that at the scene, Yuhas reportedly threatened troopers while inside the home. After several hours of negotiations, he was taken into custody.

    Yuhas was booked into the Pike County Detention Center, where he was charged with:

    • Murder-domestic violence
    • Third-degree terroristic threatening
    • Third-degree assault of an officer transporting inmates

    According to an arrest citation, Yuhas’ assault charge came after spitting on a trooper.

    He is due to appear in court for a hearing at 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 24.
