NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — Kentucky Safe Schools Week takes place from Oct. 20 to 26, and Jessamine County Schools (JCS) is heading into that week in a big way.

Nicholasville and school JCS staff gathered on Wednesday to sign a proclamation for Jessamine County School safety. The event featured several speakers who highlighted the efforts the district takes to ensure safety for all students and staff, including emergency training, and school resource officers. One of those speakers was Matthew Simpson, Director of Operations of the district.

“The biggest thing that we have accomplished here today is just to remind everyone in our community, including, our students and our parents, our citizens, that this is everybody’s job, that school safety is everyone’s job, and that, our local leaders are our law enforcement, our first responders, our local politicians and, we’re all in this together. We’re committed to having safe and healthy school environments, and that’s what this day was all about,” Simpson said.

Students also joined in on the event. East Jessamine High School Junior Gabe Snyder is part of his school’s leadership team, and he was one of several students to be invited.

“School safety to me is really important, especially as a student. I feel like there has to be a level of safety for good education to happen. Without safety, there’s always going to be that fear of education not happening properly, so I really do feel like it’s important to me that there is safety in our schools,” Snyder said.

Snyder, along with other students attending like East Jessamine High School sophomore Lena Thompson and East Jessamine senior Bogar Franco said they take a lot of comfort in all of the efforts that go into school safety.

“It’s kind of overwhelming almost to just see how many people are in our system, and that help keep our schools safe and everything. It was cool to see the amount of teamwork that goes into keeping everyone safe in the building,” Thompson said.

“I like how they really care about us. I feel like people really enjoy it when they have people that care about them. It’s a safe school, and I like it for the people here,” Franco added.

As part of the event, students were also encouraged to speak up if something seemed suspicious as part of the continuing effort to keep all schools safe.

Hopefully they do not maliciously prosecute advocating parents like Clark County! Clark County has the most untrustworthy staff and toxic educational environment this state has ever seen. The school isn't unsafe because of the student or parents it's unsafe because of the staff and administrators and board members and the superintendent let's it go on and even laugh in parents faces alongside his staff!
