NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — A Nicholasville couple showed up to claim their $90,000 prize just hours after scratching off the big prize.

On Oct. 7, after stopping at Joe’s Food Mart on South Main Street in Nicholasville earlier that morning, Donald Johnson scratched off the $5 Gold Mine 9X ticket revealing three gold bars to win the game’s $90,000 top prize.

“I’ve hit $1,000’s and $2,000’s but nothing like this,” Donald said. “First time I’ve ever hit anything like that.”

“I still can’t believe it,” he told lottery officials.

Donald went back into the store to confirm his win. “I saw $90,000 pop up on the screen. It freaked me out,” he said.

Phyllis Johnson was on a drive with her uncle when Donald called her about the news.

“He said, ‘I hit $90,000!’ I said, ‘Oh, you’re lying.’” Donald said, “No, I’m not.  Why do you think I would lie about something like that?”
