Man shot, dies in hospital, police find woman dead after trooper-involved shooting in Carlisle County

BARDWELL, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — Law enforcement is investigating after a man has died in the hospital and a woman was found dead in a residence after a trooper-involved shooting outside of the Bardwell community in Carlisle County on Friday.

It happened just after 6:20 p.m. on Friday at a residence on County Road 1591 near the Bardwell community, according to the Kentucky State Police Department (KSP). A Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) was called by KSP Post 1 in Mayfield to investigate a shooting involving a trooper.

A preliminary investigation showed that troopers were dispatched when KSP Post 1 was notified that a man had allegedly shot his wife, authorities said in a news release.

Troopers arrived at the scene alongside deputies from the Carlisle County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), where a man was found at the residence. KSP said the man fired shots during that interaction.

“A trooper fired shots from his agency-issued firearm,” KSP said. The man at the residence reportedly suffered life-threatening injuries after being shot and was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

While securing the scene, law enforcement said a dead woman was found in the residence, and that a death investigation is underway.

KSP said the shooting investigation remains ongoing and that more information could be revealed as witnesses are interviewed and more evidence is gathered.
