KENTUCKY ( FOX 56 ) — Get ready for that extra hour of sleep, Kentucky.

At 2 a.m. on Nov. 3, clocks will fall back and the Bluegrass can look forward to an extra hour of possible shut-eye.

According to Time and Date , Lexington is losing two minutes of sunlight per day as sunrises happen one minute later and the sun sets one minute earlier.

On Nov. 3 , the sun will rise at 7:06 a.m. and will set at 5:35 p.m.

According to Dr. Anite Shelgikar , a clinical associate professor of neurology at the University of Michigan, daylight saving can disrupt sleep quality and worsen mental health conditions.

With such beautiful weather on tap leading into Halloween, Kentuckians should soak up every bit of that evening sunlight while it’s still around.

Does Kentucky want to end daylight saving?

Recently, Kentucky has joined Alaska, Indiana, Minnesota, New York, Pennsylvania, Washington, and West Virginia to observe standard time permanently.

Rep. Steven Doan , R-Erlanger, sponsored House Bill 674 to “ exempt the Commonwealth of Kentucky from the observance of daylight saving time.”

If passed, the bill would take effect on Nov. 1, making Kentucky’s last spring forward on March 10, before falling back a final time to stay on U.S. standard time.

In other words, once Kentucky fell back on Nov. 3, time would stop changing in the Bluegrass.

Important housekeeping to do every daylight saving

AccuWeather noted that the changing of the clocks is also a great reminder for people to perform important, routine maintenance around their homes, such as:

    • Changing batteries in smoke detectors
    • Replace furnace air filters
    • Reverse ceiling fans and help reduce heating costs
